The Opportunity Scholarship program is administered by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA).
The Opportunity Scholarship Act generates money that allows students from lower income families to attend private schools of their choice. Families whose income is under a certain limit are eligible to receive scholarships up to $6,168* per student per school year. A limited number of scholarships are available. Families can research their eligibility and should apply by the deadline for the lottery. Scholarships may also be granted during the current school year.
Haw River Christian Academy is a participating school. Our office is notified when a child receives the scholarship. This does not guarantee enrollment in the school. The family must apply to the school through our admissions process. Once accepted, the family and the school will notify the NCSEAA of the child’s start date at HRCA. Funding is guaranteed every year as long as the state continues to approve/fund it and a family continues to qualify. The family must maintain and monitor their electronic account through the NCSEAA. Both the family and school must endorse a child’s continued enrollment.
